Personal Data Protection Law in North Macedonia – the Agency promises softer aproach in the first six months

The first six months of the implementation of the new Law on Personal Data Protection will be used for education and corrective measures

At the meeting held this morning at the Ministry of Justice, the manner of implementation of the Law on Personal Data Protection was clarified and it was clarified that the first six months of the implementation of the new Law on Personal Data Protection will be used for education and corrective measures. At the meeting of the Minister of Justice Bojan Maricic with the concerned parties, ie the representatives of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, the Macedonian Banking Association, a representative of the Association of Chambers of Commerce, as well as the Agency for Personal Data Protection, after the concerns expressed by companies regarding the implementation of the new Law, it is clarified that in the first six months from its entry into force, the Agency for Personal Data Protection in the field during its supervisions will act educationally, ie with corrective measures. This is done in order to help companies fully implement the new rules. Additionally, if the supervisor finds a violation of the law, a certain deadline will be given within which the entity should eliminate the irregularities.

The Personal Data Protection Agency will prepare and conduct trainings for the companies. Additionally, guidelines for proper law enforcement will be developed. The Agency will also open a special communication line, which will be used by all parties in order to obtain accurate and timely information on the obligations arising from the new law.

At the request of the stakeholders, in the future approach, comparative analyzes will be made on the amount of fines for misdemeanors arising from the new law, and if a real need to change them is identified, a dialogue will be reopened.

With this clarification, the requests of the companies are met, and through the new Law, the protection of the personal data of the citizens will be guaranteed.
